Cosmic Connections, Book Two.

When Shane McKade wakes up trapped in a bed, handcuffed to Alyssa Campini, he figures things could be worse. She aggravates him to no end but sex with the sassy photographer is smokin’.

Alyssa met McKade while photographing street gangs, and the hot cop has been a thorn in her side ever since. His only redeeming feature is an ability to deliver twenty-four orgasms in twenty-four hours—if he can stop arguing with her long enough, that is.

Then Shane is shot protecting one of Alyssa’s gang kids. When both find their lives in danger, perhaps it’s time to stop fighting and start evaluating what they mean to each other…before it’s too late.

This book was fantastic for the first 60%. The scenes were well-paced and I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters. There was strife, confusion, passion, and every other write-worthy emotion within the pages. However, after that first part, the story hit a ten-foot tall, three-foot thick brick wall and it carried on and on, without ANY face-to-face interplay between the two main characters until the last few pages. Keep in mind this is a Plus Novel, so that adds up to a LOT of pages that held very little literary appeal for me - all fluff and no substance. Rather than focusing on the two lovebirds, the author focused on the other family members. Rather than having typical squabbles and tussles, this family suddenly morphed into a 60's sitcom family, complete with lots and lots of hugs and lines about how supportive and loving they were with one another, and how they would effortlessly fold others into the family with no question, or even hesitancy. It was "Hi, nice to meet you." to "We love you and you will forever be here with us." That's it. No growing pains, no honeymoon period, no getting-to-know-you stage. I appreciate a loving family, but I like the author to show me through the actions and reactions of the characters rather than quoting their Hallmark-esque heart-to-heart talks. If the author would have summed up that middle thirty percent of the book into about two pages, I would have given this a much higher rating.
