By the twenty-first century, Germany has all but taken over the world. Only one nation remains untouched…America. Only spies slip in and out of enemy territory. Within this shadowy and dangerous world of cloak and dagger, Isabel Riley is an American spy deep in enemy territory.

Isabel is detained at a German checkpoint by a black-uniformed SS officer. She’s arrested, taken into custody and interrogated.

But she soon learns her enigmatic captor wants more than just her secrets. He enjoys tying her up or teasing her with the tails of his leather flogger. But floggers and video cameras are the least of her concerns. In the eyes of the Third Reich, ownership is real. And a lovely American spy is far too tempting of a war prize to pass up.

A Romantica® erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

I quite liked the story and the background behind everything. I think what I liked the most was that the author didn't just tell you everything right away and so we, as readers, are confused just like the main character. What will the SS officer do? What is really going on. I would LOVE to see a sequel to this.

!Spoilers! The story background is quite amazing! I totally loved how the AU was developed, and revealed peace by peace. You think nazis, but you get Americans experimenting on kids, which is a refreshing (and a much more realistic) image. I sincerely thank the author for all the hard work she put into creating the story. I only wish for a less-open ending, and the name of the SS officer. Seriously, this was a great cliffhanger. I am totally looking forward to seeing the story continued (or at least a story in the same AU, aforementioned name revealed). As for the erotic part, it was a bit unrealistic and monotone, but quite enjoyable (to read) anyway.

I loved it. It only stopped a bit too suddenly for me. But so well written I hope that you keep it up.

While I seem to be the only one that found the ending fitting, I had some HUGE issues with the novel. The political story line is annoying as hell, and any mention of America or the MC's past takes you completely out of the novel. Her family is COMPLETELY unrealistic. The writer clearly has no knowledge of spy training or warfare other than maybe what she's seen on TV or in films - but I'd say she didn't even pay too close attention there. My main frustration here was how "BRILLIANT" of a spy the SS seemed to find her because she "IMPROVISES". Despite how the author seems to think that spies improvising is completely unheard of, spies improvise all the time. Another thing that irked me was her mentioning seduction training a million times and then knowing absolute ZILCH when it came to sex: thinking that the man in the missionary position is suppose to squish the female & that she hurt her captor when she touched his erection. The writing could have used some heavy handed editing. So many descriptions were used repeatedly it kind of takes you out of the book. About a million "Actually" "Too be honest" "Honestly" etc over and over again. ALL of that being said, if you can grit your teeth and move past the more annoying things, there is a nice chemistry between the two characters. I think the sex scenes - while not really well written & tended to skip over her climaxes again and again - had promises to them and delivered on those promises pretty well. I might have wanted to toss the book a few times (didn't because it's on my ereader) but there was something there in the author's story or writing that kept me reading. I blame the lack of editing here more than the author. Any editor worth their salt should have told the writer we don't need descriptions of taking a shower unless something happens (and 3 or 4 pages of nothing but a catalog of item bought for her?? HOW DID AN EDITOR LET THIS PASS) but still... Could have been MUCH better. Either way it's MUCH easier to critique than it is to create, so I hope Gail S. keeps writing and improving on her craft.

The writing was terrible and the thought processes of the main character, Isobel, are like reading the diary entries of a 3rd grader: boring, trivial and poorly articulated. The sex scenes were not that hot and I think it was because Isobel is such a weak person. She's supposed to be an American spy who is captured and you'd think that she would fight more or be a stronger woman due to all of her training and experiences but all she does is cry at every opportunity. Definitely not a book I would recommend to anyone.

I was very intrigued by the premise of the story. I have read several mainstream books with the same type of story line. I did enjoy most of the book, but the main character did seem a bit asinine. I was really intrigued in reading more about the characters and how they would resolve, when the story suddenly ended, without a conclusion. Basically the story was enjoyable, but the ending leaves much to be desired.

WARNING! SPOILERS! I commend the author for tackling extremely controversial subject matter like Nazi Germany. EC also deserves snaps for offering the novel opportunity to touch audiences. My reading experience of "Captured" was unique and enjoyable. I was never certain what I was reading. This is more a story of Isabel's self-discovery and realization of her submissive tendencies than it is a love story. It MIGHT qualify as the beginning of a love story, but it remains incomplete. Isabel's nameless captor admits as much several times. My own knowledge of WW2 history probably affected my impressions in lending the read a horrific tension. Much like Isabel, I kept waiting for a terrible shoe to drop. I shuddered when her captor/master offered her a cup of "sedative" hot chocolate (brought the Goebbels to mind.) The story contains a powerful non-consensual feel, although this might be consistent with BDSM literature. I couldn't reconcile many of Captor's actions (drugging Isabel, videotaping her without permission, etc.) with being a "good" person. Since the entire story is told in Isabel's (first person, present tense) viewpoint, and Isabel herself is unreliable (definitely out of touch with her feelings) I never felt I really knew who Captor was OR if I liked him or not. Captor came across more as an anonymous, slightly sinister authority figure than anything else. At the same time, Captor boasted an irresistible caregiver aspect. I would have liked knowing him better, but perhaps his mysterty made him sexier/scarier. I was intrigued by the AR world-building of Nazi Germany, but I felt more was needed in order to really "sell" me a Nazi Germany rising above the documented real-life horrors of that regime. Particularly since the SS is portrayed as the "good guys" (or at least "better guys" than the U.S.) Some reviewers complained of the novel's ending. The ending made sense for an erotic story, but the romance elements just werent' there. It's more a HFN than HEA. The erotic scenes are pretty good and there are plenty of them. This book is definitely worth the reading time for good escapism, I just like a bit more (story, character development, and world-building.)

If you are a fan of submissive fantasies then this is a great read. GS created an alternate universe where Germany won. This is not romancing the Nazi's - this is a story about a woman path into submission. Suspend reality and enjoy. Not a plot spoiler, but to ease the squemish, GS kills off Hitler giving the Reich a humane leader. I really enjoyed this book. And Bobbie - I've been and seen the same as you. I have not forgotten, and still I enjoyed this as a good book.
