Ash is an ordinary girl, leading an ordinary life, but behind her smile she hides a secret so damning she’s sure no one could ever love her.

Noah is a war photographer who’s come back from Afghanistan with a secret so dark he can’t escape its smothering grip.

Both need redemption. Ash looks for it by making people happy. Noah seeks it under the whip of a Dom. They’re damaged souls, drowning in guilt, unable to escape the legacies of their pasts. Then their worlds collide in an explosion of fireworks so strong it singes not only them, but those around them. It’s said love heals all wounds, but sometimes before love enters the heart, the intense fire of passion has to burn a path, lighting the way.

Review: The story An Ordinary Girl is, by far, one of the best books this reader has ever had the privaledge of diving into. The characters were so alive and real; the plot was so thick with drama, both good and bad; the love scenes were heart-wrenching in their intensity; the sex scenes were beyond erotic. This book is amazing - how the author managed to fit everything in - interesting plot, love, hate, terror, sex, and deep insight - without bogging anything down is beyond this reader...I am just beyond glad that she did. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys hot sex scenes, amazing break-throughs of trials and tribulations, and a path towards deeper meaning through characters that simply come to life with absolutely no effort whatsoever on the part of the reader. Truly remarkable, this book. Rating: 5 out of 5. B.E. just gets better and better! This was an excellent piece of writing! The characters were believable, and as the story progressed, each personality unfolded and entwined with surprising circumstances in this "Cinderella" story. Couldn't keep my eyes dry!

OMG! I just love her books. Each one I have read is unique in it's own way and yet has a similar undercurrent. This one was really really good. When you read the description you may think that , oh this may not be good b/c the problems that may get b/w characters could be trite. Completely not the case in this book. Buy it!! You won't be sorry. :-) please please please let there be a book for Ilya and you know who.....

If you liked Strangers, read this! While sharing similar elements, this is definitely it's own story with very special characters. I had made the observation a few weeks ago that two characters filled with angst just don't work together - I was wrong. It just takes a very good author to make it work and to make you fall in love with them. Not quite as down and dirty as most of Barbara's books, but it works for Ash and Noah. Hoping that there's a sequel in the works!

Once again Ms. Elsborg delivers a well written, emotionally heart-wrenching love story with wonderfully complex characters. Her storytelling is pristine, as always, and her humor provides the levity needed to keep the intensity of emotion from being overwhelming. I do wish that Ronan's story were a little more fleshed out, but perhaps she is saving that story for another day. All in all, although Elsborg is always an excellent read, this is one of her best yet.

I agree with every one of these comments but I gave it 4 stars only because I think it took to much time to get back together (and that's only because I'm impatient). Other than that, GREAT read all around. Another favorite after Strangers.

I stumbled upon Barbara Elsborg through her book, Strangers, and since then I've made it a point to catch up on her other novels. Much like many of her other books, the hero of this novel is flawed or pained in a way that is somehow magnetic, and makes us want to learn more. Same with the heroine, though I found her doormat routine (in reference to Noah) to be frustrating at times. Regardless, I couldn't stop reading. I loved this book, and I really enjoy Barbara Elsborg's writing. The characters - frustrating/twisted/scarred as they may be - work really well together, and you just want to know more. I was sad to see it end, and agree with Heather: really hoping we get to continue with Ilya's story in the future!! And don't be fooled...while there are very strong alpha male characters in this book, it is not a BDSM-themed story (despite the preview/opening sequence). :)
