Kaitlyn Richards is a witch with powers beyond the norm. Her unique abilities make her one of the few people in the state of Florida qualified to be an S.E., or Supernatural Enforcer. As part of her duties she uses her home as a magical holding cell for creatures too strong to be contained in normal human jails.

Holden Sumner is a three-hundred-year-old vampire on a mission—he’s been stalking a serial-killing demon for centuries and he needs Kaitlyn’s help to kill it. The problem is, she won’t give him the time of night. But Sumner is determined to get under her skin.

Though Kaitlyn is reluctant to get involved with a vampire, she agrees to help Sumner search for the killer. But in order to drive the demon back to hell and stop the slaughter of innocents, she will have to bind herself more tightly than she ever thought possible to a man she doesn’t want to love.

She and Sumner must form a blood covenant…or die trying.

Review The story The Covenant had so much potential. Even despite not reaching its full potential, though, it was a good story. The plot was original, and the details concerning witches and vampires are different enough from the mainstream ideas to be completely new and more than interesting. The most disappointing part of the book was the main female character; at the start, she was someone with whom the reader could really identify, which is important because it makes the story so much more real and enjoyable. Once the story came into play, though, she became annoying and irritatingly fearful. Stubborn to the point of ruining her character, and that never sits well with this reader. The love story between the two characters was wonderful, but to be honest, were I the lead male character...I wouldn't have fought for her once her cowardly attributes showed themselves. Because of this, the actual love between the two was somewhat tainted...but again, it was still a good story. Rating: 4 out of 5. I'm rating it a '2' because it most definitely could have been better. The story line was promising, a powerful witch, a dangerous sexy vampire and an evil being needing to be defeat. How can it go wrong? (sigh) Very easily. As with Alaina and Rebecca's observations, the heroine (Kaitlyn) was wayyyyy prejudiced against the vampire and the words 'the woman protests to much' kept popping into mind. I wanted to scream at her to get a backbone. She wants him, she didn't want him, she desired him, she didn't want to desire him, etc, etc... eh. Over 180 plus pages and it got to the point I was scrolling through them. The whole grandmother thing was another story stuck in, Like I mentioned, it could have been better.

I'm a huge fan of Evangeline Anderson, and I was very excited to read this story. I have to say that it reminded me a lot of her previous book, Deal with the Devil. It's a vampire story where the heroine has an extreme prejudice against vampires. That was fine, but I thought that it was drawn out to the point that the heroine looked stupid and irritated the crap out of me. I liked the hero and his tragic past, but the ending felt a little bit rushed.

I have to agree with Alaina. The book was good, but I felt that the heroine's prejudice against vampires kept me from feeling the heat and love between the two characters. It was kind of like "oh, hey, I guess I love him." The premise of the story was good though and I loved the hero.
