First Book in the Eclipse Heat series.

When bounty hunter Sam McCallister sees Eden Pace playing poker for the first time, he loses all interest in the cards; instead, the thought of playing stud with the lady gambler stirs his cock to life. Eden’s the prettiest woman and the best card sharp Sam’s ever met. Good thing he has a few cards up his sleeve.

Eden’s doing her own outlaw hunting. She’s on the trail of her husband’s killer and Sam’s in her way. To get free of this hardheaded, softhearted, gorgeous man, Eden tries strip poker and naked truth-or-dare, but when Sam ups the stakes, carnal submission and desire are unleashed.

When Sam discovers Eden’s wanted for murder, he figures his bed is the safest place for her. But taking Eden prisoner isn’t as easy as Sam expects. He’s in a high-stakes poker game with lust on the table and his heart on the line, because one taste of Eden just isn’t enough.

A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW 3.75 - Reviewed by: Josie Eden Pace is quickly earning a reputation as a clever card shark. When she catches Sam McCallister's eye, he's not as easily dissuaded as other men have been and begins walking her home at night. Sam is a bounty hunter and adept at reading people, so he's curious about the woman who claims to be married, yet is out gambling every night. Realizing there is more to her story, he becomes protective. When her face shows up on the latest wanted poster, Sam demands answers. It turns out she's a widow out to avenge her husband's murder and has already killed in self-defense. Sam, who knows she's on a suicide mission and can't let her continue, yet he can't stop her either. That leaves one option: to join her. And does he ever. He pulls her into his clan of bounty hunters and invites her into his family. The two become lovers. Sam knows he's fallen, but can Eden, who'd been deeply in love with her first husband, ever love again? Five Card Stud was a good story, but the first two-thirds of the novel was very slow. There wasn't enough happening to hold my interest or enough backstory to have the characters make sense. As a reviewer, I trudged on. Then the story picked up and the last third was amazing! The plot came together and ended in a satisfying way. Eden had great spunk compared with Sam, a man who is used to getting his way. Overall an enjoyable book, but the reader could probably start halfway through and not miss anything.

Gem sure knows how to write a fantastic historical western and Five Card Stud is well worth the price. The chemistry between Sam and Eden is electrifying and there are plenty of plot twists and turns to keep the reader fully engrossed in the book making it a definite must read!!!!!!!!!!
