Shamed by secrets, Anne Meredith will do anything to fulfill her marriage contract to a mysterious Bavarian count. Even if it means submitting to Axel von Sommerhalder, the handsome stranger the count has enlisted to train her. She thinks the intimate punishments her trainer metes out will be a humiliating ordeal. Instead, as she finds herself surrendering to the dominant desires of a man forbidden to claim her, she discovers even more about herself than she ever dreamed possible.

Axel demands that his novice abandon every inhibition. But in doing so, they both embark on a dangerous journey, tempting each other’s flesh, relishing every forbidden touch—and breaking every rule.

This is bondage and dominance erotica getting right into it even in chapter one. Attraction and the forbidden are intriguing for the wanna be lovers. Ann is an innocent that has the determination to see things through and Axel has the duty of “training” that are paramount to this story. It can be hard to comprehend the use of pain to stimulate pleasure but Debra Glass makes the description nice and clear. It is very sweet and tender that Axel does what he must to “train” Ann, his emotions and silent comments to himself reveal a caring man, one who wants Ann for himself. This story had me skerming a little because I had a hard time believing that this would be done to an innocent and so publically. I related more to Axel then to Ann. This is not for the soft romance reader. 4 out of 5 Reviewed by: Pam For http://RomanceWritersReviews.com

WARNING! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Disclaimer: I am a paying customer, not a reviewer furnished with a comp copy of this ebook. I wish EC's rating system allowed readers to award stars in half-star increments. I would have rated "Twice the Novice" 3.5 stars under that option. A lush, fairy tale quality nestles within Glass's imaginative portrayal of English innocent, Anne Meredith's sexual submission to stunning, sexy Axel von Sommerhalder for "training" requisite to her marriage to Axel's uncle. It's tough to truly categorize this novella. Although set in 1780's Bavaria, the story's overall tone and language is relatively modern, lending it a timelessness many readers should enjoy. Fans of more authentic portrayals of the Georgian era might feel gypped, however. I loved Glass's use of setting and would have enjoyed seeing more of the little world she created. The erotica is mostly well-written and imaginative. Since "training rules" forbid Anne and Axel to consummate their relationship, they seek pleasures through other means. This process proves very creative. IMHO, the story fails as an erotic romance due to minimal character development and plotting. A big "downer" (for me) is the general unwilingness and lack of consent of both characters in the "training process." Axel's attitude towards previous trainees seems slightly neurotic; why is he disgusted with females who respond to his sexually stimulating them? If his previous "trainees" were all disgusted with his efforts, would that have been good? I'm also put off by heroes who never loved another woman prior to the heroine (this is okay in YA relationships, in an adult man it's scary) Glass attempts to prove Anne isn't a "gold-digger" by endowing her heroine with dysflexia. This was a VERY interesting and underused subplot! Anne's reading lessons could have been developed and expanded into a realistic love story and romantic attraction between the couple. However, I don't see how Anne's reading disability makes her less a "gold-digger" than any previous candidate for the title/wealth/position marriage to a foreign prince affords, though. Is illiteracy a justification for contracting an advantageous marriage? The novella's major focus is the couple's erotic attraction and curiosity; if this were marketed as erotica, I wouldn't complain about the lack of "real" romance in the plot. The story hinges upon a convenient deception I found a tad irksome. Try as I might, I couldn't buy into the "necessity" of such a spectacular ruse intended to "confirm" the couple's true love. Despite my peeves, the writing is pleasant, readable, and erotic. I recommend this story to Glass's fans and to readers who enjoy erotic fiction featuring lots of spanking, lots of anal stimulation, and a touch of humiliation and public exposure justified as "character building" -- all of it delivered by a reluctant "Master" who feels sorry for his sub -- in the storyline.

I truly enjoyed this little novella. The beautifully descriptive settings brought this 18th century period piece to life. Axel and Anne are dedicated characters and Ms. Glass really knows how to build the sexual tension. She is imaginative and yet never degrading in her use of BDSM. I would highly recommend this short story to anyone who enjoys historical romance with healthly dose of spice!!

I've been a Debra Glass for the last couple of years. Kind of like a must-read. And she never fails to disappoint as she didn't with "Twice the Novice"! I loved this story! I rooted for Axel and Anne to be together! And--going to try not to spoil it--but the way Debra Glass mixed the eroticism and romance was wonderful! Loved it!! She continues to be a must-read when you want naughty and love!
