Bottoms Up, Book Two

Suzy likes her men tough and her sex rough—and for two weeks a year, she indulges in both. On the agenda this vacation? Untamed cowboy, straight from the source—a hoppin’ bar in rural West Texas named Bottoms Up. But tough turns to trouble when she picks the wrong cowboy—an ex-con fresh from the slammer who won’t take no for an answer…

Jonah McKenzie rides to the rescue, clueless the fiery redhead who tempts him into the wildest night of his life is actually a blast from his past. It’ll take a firm hand indeed once he discovers the tattooed firecracker in his bed is none other than the soft-spoken sweetheart he once finagled a date with—only to stand her up when unexpected tragedy struck.

At six-foot-four Jonah’s one long, tall Texan, and he’s hell-bent on reining in the “lady” claiming he’s too tame to satisfy her naughty side. He’ll be happy to prove she’s wrong—with that western belt of his that she so admires.

Rein Me In is the second in Larissa Lyons and Alyssa Brooks’ Bottoms Up series, but it runs parallel to events in the first volume, Restrain Me, so you don’t need to have read that to make sense of this. If, like this reviewer, you don’t quite understand the appeal of cowboys, you won’t learn much from the novel apart from it involving some combination of muscles and chivalry, but if you already lust over men in stetsons, there’ll be much here to enjoy. Lyons and Brooks write seamlessly as a team, creating a believable romance between a solid, dependable hero (albeit one wracked with fits of needless jealousy) and a closed-up heroine who needs to be taught how to love and trust. The scenes where Suzy submits to Jonah generate real heat, and will appeal to those who like to see BDSM themes explored outside a traditional master/slave setting. Unfortunately, some of that heat is diluted by the antics of the supporting cast, intended to provide comic relief which isn’t always necessary. The worst offender is God-fearing matriarch Nana, who the McKenzies all appear to love deeply despite her being the worst kind of fundamentalist Christian stereotype, believing extra-marital sex to be a sin. Throughout the course of Rein Me In, various plot lines featuring McKenzie siblings are carefully developed for future books, so expect the Bottoms Up series to ride the range for quite a while to come.

A little long winded and not quite as good as 'Restrain Me', but still a good read.

"Funny, sweet, a little BDSM, and a lot of hot cowboys make this a fantastic story. I didn't want to put it down because I couldn't wait to read about what would happen next. Would Jonah's grandmother do something else to set someone off, his grandfather cause more problems or would Jonah learn a bit more about his neighbors than he ever wanted to. At some points I had to laugh and at others, I could almost cry. If the first book and the rest of this series are this entertaining, I'm going to be sad when they end but as they are just starting, I had better go find that first book and get ready for some interesting times in Texas." I really tried to like this book, but I could barely tolerate the ramblings of a supposedly mature, professional woman who, once a year, let her hair down and went wild. I have no problem with the concept, but she was reckless, needy, and emotionally stunted. Not 5 minutes after she makes her first big mistake, she's heading face first into another. IMO, Jonah deserved much better. Not too crazy about the family's situation with Nana either. It was kinda cute in the first book, but it's a bit old and overdone at this point. Women have come a long way, but Suzy still has miles to go.

This book was great!!! These two authors really know how to put the romance in with the erotic. The characters & their actions seemed believeable which I really liked. And Jonah McKenzie? He is one hero I want for myself! A considerate cowboy that knows how to be rough and tender at the same time. Suzy needs his understanding and his brand of lovin' to bring her out of hiding her feelings which she's gotten too good at. Jonah needs Suzy's wild ways to bring out his inner bad boy. All in all, a great story from start to finish.

I LOVED Jonah but hated how his family took his unconditional love for granted. The story did feel a little over explained, Suzy's emotional issues were pushed a little to much, it became down right annoying to have her go over her insecurities and scars again and again. I don't know if it was my personal experience with losing a parent young but going through Jonah's loss was heart wrenching. It's not always easy to find words that properly express what one goes through it that situation, the authors did a great job conveying his emotion from the time that it happened, carrying on to years later. I have to add that the ending was great and almost had me in tears, can't wait to read about the rest of the family!

This book had several problems: the manner of writing was rather confusing and poorly edited. I understand that they wanted the main character's journal to highlight her past and how it played into her present but the execution of the concept was poor. Additionally, the book was oddly unsatisfying- this is a problem many EC books have lately. There were also plot issues that make me question the author's ideas of what women are looking for. I do not recommend this book- 7.99 is about 5.00 too much for this mess.

While I enjoyed Restrain Me, the first book in this new series, I ADORED this book. Jonah and Suzy were highly believable characters, and I loved how they'd known each other back in college. Maybe it's my degree in psychology, but I really liked how the authors showed not only how the two lead characters are now but how they came to be in their current situations. Each had fallen into a rut and needed the other to break free. Or it could just be the fact that as a native Texan, the antics of Jonah's extended family rang true to me. Believe me, Nana Dori is alive and well in the Lone Star State and often goes by the title, Big Mama, which reflects the influence she has on her family and not her size.

Did that other reviewer and I read the same book? I’ve been reading Larissa Lyons for a while now and have yet to find a more diverse writer in the erotic genre. From her Regency stories to her contemporary works she always delivers. She and her co-writer Alyssa Brooks did a fabulous job portraying the main characters Jonah, and Suzy. Suzy is a complicated gal, having more than her fair share of heart breaks. Jonah is a sexy West Texas cowboy and a gentleman to boot. I did not find him to be a pushover but a strong man who cares deeply for those he loves, fierce in his convictions and principles. I loved the attention to detail and the authentic atmosphere the details create. The emotional and psychological elements are spot on, giving credence to the characters of the story. The erotic sex scenes are impeccable from insatiably rough to tender and sweet. If only they could make this one into a movie. You can judge this book by its cover.

While the book is okay it could be better. The male character was a little to soft in letting his family run him over. His grandmother was overly intrusive. His brothers/cousins showed no respect. He obviously cared for them, but a doormat? not so hot. Having said that, (outside of his families treatment) he was adorable and definitely a catch. The female character had obvious emotional problems which the author worked out in detail. She was okay, likeable but not the best character she could have been. There was a 'Book of Men' that showcases the available men in the area for sex. The men were working and running ranches, stores, etc.. It was an interesting idea but the distastful fact is, if you pay for sex, it's prostitution. And that's what it was, not a clever way of 'helping' single women and furthering the story but renting men for sex. Maybe if the author fixed it so they didn't accept money but something like payment in the form of the woman achieveing orgasm as payment? But no, money was involved. Not to cool. The sex between the two started out hot but then kind of simmered. There was waaayyyy to much detail in the story. I found myself skipping whole pages while skimming paragraphs here and there and still getting the storyline. Interesting read, I really liked the male he was adorable but... the story could be better.
