“Well, what we really need are small girls who are good at shouting and like hanging out with tall, muscular blokes.”

“Sign me up!”

And that was how I got into coxing.

Eight tall, muscular men, straining every sinew, and one itty-bitty young woman urging them on with all her might.

Joanna is the coxswain for a British university rowing crew, all of them fit and muscular and hot. Although she’s fantasized about each of the men, she has always been careful to keep her relations with them strictly platonic. But now she’s leaving for a new job—and they’re going to have a farewell party they will never forget, as all Jo’s wildest dreams come true on this final night together.

I loved this story and I only gave it four stars because I could have done without the vocabulary lesson. I was more interested in the story development and the awesome sex. The best part was the emotional tie between her and her men (besides the amazing sex).

I agree with Brenda. And it should be a free read.

I have no idea why anyone feels that this should be a free read, or how a ten thousand word story is too little for less than three dollars. The row terms are all perfectly relevant to the sex in the story, and as such, seem to me to belong there. This story reads like a love song to men, a appreciative tribute. It's touching in its sentiment and also presents an extremely positive picture of healthy female desire. I love the mix of affection and objectification and love that the main character manages to communicate about her friends. I also think the dynamic of the cox and her team is an interesting one, and perfect subject matter - I loved all the descriptions of physical exertion, on and off the water. I think this is really nicely put together. And yes, it's hot!

this book is only 39 pages, the first 9 pages are about what row terms, and between pages 9 and 21 it's all about memories. it didn't even start to become good until there was only 10 pages left. the sex seemed forced, there was no passion or anything. the only good thing about this book was the last line. really could have been better.

Brenda's observation is correct - I think less time could have been spent explaining all of the terminology. However, the memories served as the basis of the story and explained Joanna's relationship with the rowing team. Understand that this is a very short story. (I'm thinking that the word count was bumped up by the definitions making this a Quickie rather than a free read.) BUT - note that I still gave this 4 stars. Joanna was real, her emotions were real, and the story was very well written. The sex was HOT. Woohoo! If you don't mind paying for a snippet of a story, it's a good read. Was it worth $2.75 for the length? I thought so, but I can understand how some people may be put off, especially given the pages explaining rowing.
