Zora has lived the past thirteen years in an anesthetized state. She logs long hours at work and takes sleeping pills at night, helping her to keep insanity at bay and the howling of wolves from her dreams. But memories of her family, slaughtered by a pack in Montana, haunt her. One night, her troubled dreams are interrupted by a man who urges Zora to return home—and finds an erotically stirring way in which to entice her to do his bidding.

Vaughn is a vampire. He’s read Zora’s thoughts for years, making his desire for her nearly unbearable, especially when she begins to fantasize about him. Vaughn responds in reality, but can his mind-blowing orgasms help Zora call forth the mystical power buried within her? Will their lust be a distraction or will it help them defeat the pack?

Publisher’s Note: This story was previously published elsewhere under the title Keeper of the Night and has been revised for Ellora's Cave.

The heroine is weak, pathetic, and when she could have shown some remnant of character by being angry at the murder of her family, all she wanted to do was retreat into a drug induced haze and hide from her memories. Zora doubts her sanity, her abilities and is so timid, that it is unclear how or why the author feels that she's presenting us with a heroine that the reader can either like never mind respect. How many years of hearing a man's voice in your head does it take to do something as straight forward as to just talk back to the voice? After all she thought she was hallucinating so what was the harm? Vaughan takes so long in actually telling Zora why he needs her to return to Colorado that any other person would have run out of patience. The author couldn't seem to work out how to blend the sensual elements of the plot with the actual story. Just like Vaughan, I kept wanting to say to Zora, 'Now is not the time'. There was a ridulous number of holes in the plot caused by nothing more than poor writing. This is one of those books you will delete as I will as soon as you've finished reading it and then forget about this mediocre writing except to ensure that you don't bother to read anything by this author again.

There were some unusual twist that made this a interesting read. The story was fast pasted and didn't drag. However, Zora and Vaughns all important first kiss just happened to come after she had lost the contents of her breakfast into a trash can, I'm sorry but I don't see the romance in that.

It is a delightful story. A Vampire needing a human’s help to fight evil. Except this human has a special ability that has been hiding in her that enables her to kill an Alpha wolf. Nice little twist. Before she is urged to return home she only exists and overindulges in her work and with help of sleeping pills lives a very dull life. Once home she learns things she would never dream of –well maybe dream of if she wasn’t so numb. Put to the test so soon from arriving home she must battle evil. This has adventure and ( well, let’s just call it "steamy adventure" ) too. I rate this a 4 ½ out of 5.
