Amy on 5/23/2011, said: My 2nd favorite of this series after "At Love's Command". I've read all and if you were going to read just 2, this and that one are the ones to pick up. Again Ms Kane draws great characters dealing with lots of scars both physical and emotional. Each character helps the others deal with their issues. Gideon is physically scarred from the war and has a missing leg. His future bride has a physical problem too (not to give it away) and has hidden herself from society. Charles the war buddy has emotional scars that come out later in the book. In this one the two men are not lovers but there are definite tensions there. Although I didn't like the sex as much in this book as in ALC, though there were some great sex scenes. Overall the characters and emotions are wonderful and made this book. How they move forward and grow is great. I love these books. But only this one and the one mentioned above, ALC, are my 5 stars as they really deserve it. "Love's Fortress" gets back to the series strong points with good heroes and a strong heroine. If you liked the earlier books in the series, this one will not disappoint.
