Colonel Rákōsy Avar is an officer in the Imperial Forces sent to the planet Antares to negotiate an alliance. He’s learned the hard way to trust no one and has only one passion—duty. But when an Antaren kebara is sent to serve him in any way he desires, she proves too great a temptation for the battle-scarred warrior. Although he suspects a trap, he still wants her on her back. In his bed.

Meraya is a woman trained to provide sexual pleasure. A woman whose duty is to serve. She has never known freedom. Or desire. She discovers both in the arms of the barbarian colonel. But Meraya is a pawn in a deadly game of interstellar politics that could cost her everything…including her heart.

When Avar discovers he wants more than the paradise found between Meraya’s lovely thighs, he must play for the highest stakes ever, gambling with the life of a woman he can’t resist. A woman whose betrayal would destroy him.

Very good story with a great hero. Story is well written with a good plot. I would have liked it to be longer but the pacing was good for the length.

OMG!! What a great read! This ranks up with some of my other great favs... If you've liked Laurann Dohner you should like this as well! This was a completely original read - nothing sounded like any other book I've read or any other sci -fi tv show I've seen... and I watch them all. I knew it would be a good read as Ms. Anderson's first book - Not a Lady was well done... but this far surpassed my expectations. The only thing I would have liked just cause I'm that kind of person was to find out more about the sharush marks on the kebareet... in other words more of the back story for the worlds and the people on them. Yes I'm a "sci-fi geek"! I got the feeling that they weren't born that way and would have loved a more detailed explanation - that however does not take away from the story's complexity, detail and hot writing. It must have been difficult to divide the two different styles of talking that the Antaren's do as well as the Imperial style. Please keep writing Ms. Anderson - I'd love to hear more! I do have to agree that I would have liked the ending to draw out a little more - it was kind of anti-climactic - but I still loved the book, the evolving of the characters - I've read it 6 times since I've bought it!

Sympathetic and compelling hero/heroine. Unique, engaging world. Scorching sex. I was easily submerged in the story. My only complaint: too short! The author succeeded in engaging me with her characters and their world. While satisfying in its current embodiment, I would like to have known more of their backstories. This would be a nice beginning to a more fully developed novel. All in all: Well done.

The premise is great and the characters are solid. The author did a good job of creating an original world. It's a little anticlimatic where the story gets resolved in the last couple of pages. I felt like the author could have really upped the drama.

Hot and romantic! The hero is a gentleman, but is sexy. The plot of the story is original, nothing copied from other stories.
