Hot on the heels of a nasty break-up, Natalie’s truck dies and strands her deep in Louisiana’s sweltering backwoods. A glow beyond the trees and a haunting melody lead her to what she hopes is salvation.

The Shivaree is more than a bar. It’s a mysterious oasis where people go to escape into a cold drink and lose themselves against a warm body on the dance floor. Gabriel is its resident musician, gifted with unnerving talent and intoxicating sexual charisma. The only thing standing between Natalie and the perfect rebound is Gabriel’s possessive and domineering lover, and Natalie’s not afraid of a bully. Certainly not one built like Shane Broussard. She’s ready to discover the perfect remedy for heartache—two hot male bodies, one long, sultry, southern night.

I didn't mind the ending so much,it wasn't as much an unhappy ending as it seemed to be leave an open possibility for another story. I would definitely like to see how things go between Gabriel and Shane. I felt bad for Shane, you could see that he was well and truly strung out on Gabriel as if he really were a drug. Overall a good read, but I prefered Backwoods

Some hot sex scenes but I was not impressed or drawn to the characters in this short story

Whew! Scorchin'. And so vivid. I didn't find the ending particularly happy or unhappy-- kind of like a Simpsons episode where things just kind of go back to normal. But you know, a little more incredibly hot sex than a Simpsons episode. OK, so not the best analogy, but the only one I can think of. Anyhoo, well done, Cara!

Meh. That pretty much sums up the read for me. From the description and some of the reviews I thought I was in for something really great but it didn't work for me. I have no issues with so called non-happy endings. In fact I usually find them refreshing. There are only so many times I can read about about soul mate bondings, the heroine getting pregnant at the end, or some sort of marriage/engagement but I digress. The book description tells us of Gabriels's "unnerving talent and intoxicating charisma" but where was it? Perhaps the book was simply too short to create an atmosphere and a character like this. The sex scenes while good did not live up to what we are told about Gabriel. His being "addictive" is never felt by the reader (well at least this one) we are only told that he is so by his male lover. Like I said, I don't think this book was long enough to develop the characters and emotional impact that could live up to the description, sexy cover, and some of the reviews.

I didn't care for the book, primarily because I disliked the ending intensely. I like my stories with a happy ending. You definitely do not get that with this book.

Wow--what a hot read! Cara McKenna's writing is great; she made me feel as if I were there. I now want to book a vacation to the deep South :-).

Oh my GOD! THE SHIVAREE left me breathless! A tightly woven tale of seduction, obsession and loss that will leave you wanting so much more. You'll join the legions falling in love and lust with Gabriel and be consumed just like Natalie and Shane when you finish The SHIVAREE. Cara McKenna's a writer to be contended with--humor, voice, style and heat, oh the HEAT, she's got it all! I'm joining the ranks of serious fangirls!
