Elisabeth on 8/27/2010, said: Cindy's books are normally auto-buys for me, but this one did not have her usual spark. The hero is perfect; the heroine is perfect; even the mother-in-law is perfect. The only conflict takes a page to resolve. A little less perfection all-round would have made for a more interesting story. Flawed characters are much more intriguing. It did not meet them. The characters started out well but then did not develop, conflict was minimal and easily resolved. I hope Ms. Pape tries another Regency because I think she can do so much better! I never felt as if there was any character development. The characters were flat and uninteresting. The plot twists showed up as if Ms.Spencer Pape randomly grabbed an idea and added it in somewhere. Many of the things that readers expect of a regency were missing. No visit to the dressmaker? No shared bath? The story line jumped from event to event with poor pacing and no transitions. It is rare that I don't want to finish a story, but I did not want to keep reading this one. I gave up on it for plot and simply finished it to see if there was anything worse towards the end.
