Twila spent the best summer of her teenage years at Miller’s Lake. She never forgot the night she saw the ghostly Bride drift across the water, or the reason she’d been inside the rickety old row boat—her first real crush, Kyle Danport.

Ten years later, Twila decides Miller’s Lake is the perfect place for emotional convalescence. She figures the boy and the ghost are long gone, but it seems neither of ’em left. Both want something from her—the Bride, to solve a fifty-year-old mystery, and Kyle, to finish what they’d started on that long ago starlit night…

This would have been better as a longer piece instead of shorter. It kind of happened super quick without much sexual build up. Good quick read.

Good basis for an interesting story, but not well executed. The story is too short and quite disjointed. The instant and rough sex between Twila and Kyle didn't flow either. Lots of grammatical errors too, which is just sloppy.

This was a really good story and would have made a great novella or novel.

Sloppy execution of a troubled spirit, an unsolved murder mystery, and a potential reunion for childhood sweethearts. If more writers understood the basic structure and purposes of a short story and how they differ from lengthier works, readers would see fewer novella/novel type premises "cut down" to fit a short story word count. Riley has good ideas but no room/time to really develop all of them or even one of them. Without time/length to build atomosphere and heighten tension, this story has no "thrill value." The erotica is good to above average in quality but I was weirded out by ****SPOILER the hero and heroine immediately "getting down to business" within an hour of their reunion and Kyle immediately opting to spank Twila with a belt and handcuff her (END SPOILER) This seemed WAY too personal and intimate to be believeable given the number of years separating them. The "confession" resolving the old murder mystery was lame and unbelieveable as well. (SPOILER -- if the Ghost Bride drowned herself in the lake by tying concrete blocks to her feet, how'd she get into the lake? Did she just dive in? Use a boat? Get help from someone? This makes no sense. END SPOILER) This is a free read. If I'd paid money for it I'd feel short-changed. I do see the writing quality as a good "sample" of Riley's professional ability, but the story quality itself doesn't have me hurrying to Riley's backlist to see her other offerings.
