Addie Winter is single—just one more reason for disappointment in her permanently disapproving mother’s eyes. There’s nothing she wants more than to be loved but when her own mother can’t bring herself to love her, she wonders if anyone can. What she needs is a man—real would be ideal, but she’ll settle for pretend. Anything to shut her mother up.

Will Mansell chokes on his drink when Addie offers to pay him to spend the night in her room. Tall, dark-haired and the epitome of Addie’s “hero”, he can’t believe his luck because women usually go for his blond-haired brother. Ed Mansell is a serial playboy with an electric smile who waltzes through life and through women. Lucky for Will and Ed, they don’t have the same taste in women. But that was before they met Addie.

Far from pretending, Will and Ed set out to prove Addie is worthy of love—but Addie finds too much love can be just as painful as none at all.

Wow! What an emotional rolloercoaster. Absolutely loved it. Even better if you read 'Finding the Right One' afterwards...

I loved this book in so many ways. Mostly because it made me feel so much. The author is so wonderful. Sadly to say I can't get past the feeling that Addie ended up with the wrong guy, even though the other one didn't treat her good so many times. Now I feel unhappy and sad (getting to emotionally involved in the book ;) ...)

Frankly, Will annoyed me so much that I skipped over the steamy bits (and a lot of the other stuff too), because I didn't much care about reading a sex scene involving a character I didn't like. And if you skip the sex scenes (I can't call them love scenes, frankly), then what's the point of an EC book? It also seemed like the author spent a lot of time dreaming up new ways to hurt and embarrass Addie. Give the poor girl a break--after she's been hit by a car, publicly humiliated, lied to, cheated on, hurt in a different car accident, and near frozen to death, she also has to be attacked by a burglar? Really? Getting away from the formula is great in principle, but not if it means torturing the reader.

Okay, I agree with a couple of the people who said that the author spent a lot of time on Will and Addie's relationship vs. Addie and Eds. And it did detract from the story some. But, I gave it that rating because I really felt for Addie, Will, and Ed. I felt their pain and happiness throughout the story. It's been awhile since an author really had my emotions invested in a story. It was also a bit more realistic to me, and it did have several steamy moments. It is definitely not the same as some of the books floating around on this website today..that is definitely not a bad thing though.

I have to agree with some of the other readers, that this wasn't one of my favorites from Barbara. I can't help but feel as if I've been gypped in this book. I was expecting one ending and got a whole different surprise. The story just didn't have enough to add up to the ending for me. I did read Finding The Right One right after this book and was a lot more pleased.

It wasn't one of my favorites but it had some parts that I enjoyed. The book was different in that the majority of the book was about the relationship between Will and Addie, who are not the HEA couple in the end. It gets better as Addie and Ed become friends and Ed develops feelings for Addie but it just doesn't make up for dominant relationship in the book. I actually began to "hate" Will and wanted to smack some sense into Addie. Sadly Will's story is Ms. Elsborg's next book but since I have no sympathy for him what so ever, I think I'll skip that one and wait for the next.

All the characters were very human and realistic but not really what I was looking for out of this story. The relationship between Ed and Addie could have been developed more. Will got to be very annoying and the story seemed to drag on. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have bought the book.

I really enjoyed this laugh-out-loud funny, sometimes sad, and well written book. It was an interesting look at expectations. I enjoyed reading a book that explored a woman's growth -- both within herself, her family, her work, and in her relationships. I liked the fact that neither of the three protagonists were bad people. In fact, both brothers were good people, but only one actually "saw" Addie. A very good read, with entertaining secondary characters, and time well spent with Addie. I'm glad that Will's story will be out at the end of this month so we'll discover how he addresses his issues and gets his HEA.

I had high hopes for this book based on how it started but I also feel that too much of the book was spent on the relationship with Will and not enough time developing the relationship with Ed. Will was so horrible to Addie and her family was horrible to her as well. I was pulling for her b/c she is a very likeable character but the girl just couldn't catch a break.
