Book 1 in the Power and Pain series.

Kate Logan is unaware of her genetic imprint. All her life, she’s suppressed the dark longings that haunt her. Twenty-first-century women should not want alpha males to protect or dominate them.

Michael Kyle immediately recognizes Kate as his mate. He can send violent sexual visions to her but she doesn’t seem to understand what that means. She’s unaware and untrained.

He’s ready to show Kate that pain can liberate her pleasure. But first, he has to break through her resistance. She thinks her needs are wrong and fears her craving to submit to the sexual demands of this dominant man. Michael has to be patient—gradually increase her sexual pain to free her sexual pleasure and acceptance of her submissive heritage. If he rushes the process, or if he can’t break through her barriers, she won’t survive their mating.

Not for the meek as it is more into the s/m side of things, but if that floats your boat, this is well worth the read. Loved it.

I really enjoyed this story, its one of the first true S&M stories I have read on this site. I do wish the sex scenes were a little more intense and detailed but as a whole I really liked the story and will be reading the next story in the series.

Interesting read and build-up of seduction..Kinda hot, but could have been hotter. Author should have given more background about the clan, about the mating and what exactly it means to us humans who aren't clan. The pain factor with sexual acts, well, that was ok, but felt that in reality, not sure many gals go for that deep stuff that far; I could be wrong...But the book was about something supernatural taking place between the characters, and it took nearly the whole story for me to catch on totally. It is a good read, but honestly missed the love factor--unless that's what the author meant about being "mates."

This is a book with a good start it gives you something to keep reading. But it stays on a more pain relationship than a love and hot sex romance. It could have been a lot better with more focus on hot sex, and not just how much he wants to hurt her.

I love loving D/s stories, but at several points this story made me squirm a bit in discomfort. I didn't find the hero's desire to brutally beat the heroine sexy. While he seemed to love her spunky attitude, and her competence at her job in the first half, later these things are completely brushed aside.

So hot it nearly burned a hole in my laptop screen. I loved the chase and the capture was just as thrilling. This book isn't for the tame of heart and no one can ever claim this book is tame.

The book was okay while he was chasing her but after she gave in to him the book was more about domination and not mutual love & desire. I was very disappointed i thought it could have been a lot better...the male character did not want to have loving sex all he wanted was to dominate & hurt please do not buy if you are looking for loving bondage

This story had the same ideas behind it as the author's previous efforts that were set in an alternate planet. Even then, there were some frustrating elements to her tale- the men acted as though the women were unreasonable to question their domination "you don't understand/respect our ways" was a common refrain but never do the male leads attempt to explain "their ways". The same goes here but it's even harder to swallow (ha!). Also, there aren't enough steamy scenes to make up for her weak plot.

I will say that this is one of the better editing jobs that I've seen recently as there were no apparent mispellings or random words. But, the story was lacking. The first half of the book is spent introducing characters and developing the plot from the point of view of new hosptal management - all of which were dumped and not revisited the second half of the book and in the end seemed totally irrelevent. The first half moved incredibly slow, the second half rushed. While I understand that this is a work of fiction and does not follow a true BDSM relationship, there are still literary rules that should be followed that are developed by the writer and even those were totally disregarded. Michael would have been fired and probably jailed for any number of things happening in this story. The author has set the story in the real world though it is implied that another dimension exists (that information is never developed or explained so the reader is left wondering.) However, the characters engage in conversations and behavior not only between themselves but eith others that would be illegal. Why would a hospital manager be allowed to openly display a cabinet full of phallic toys? It would never happen. That's just one example. But there was no love, no emotional draw, and that was very disturbing. Once the sexual ineraction started late in the story, it jumped around and left me wanting more and wondering what was going on. The details were choppy and did not flow almost as if the author was either not familiar with what she was describing or not comfortable with the topic. I have to give this one star as it is probably my least favorite story I've read from Jasmine Jade.
