Librarian Jayne Shepard has always lived vicariously through her beloved books, especially Regency-era literature. So when her friends offer the chance to stay in Villa Diodati, where Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and John Polidori’s The Vampyre were inspired, Jayne seizes the chance.

She expects to absorb the haunting atmosphere of the historic manor located on the shore of Lake Geneva. What she doesn’t expect is an encounter with an enchanting stranger who calls himself Lord Byron—who awakens Jayne to a sensual and sexual ecstasy she’s never before known.

Debra Glass remains one of my favorite authors. Her plots are interesting, original, and well-written. This was a perfect short story for the Exotica line--no HEA needed. Terrific fantasy sex with a ghost lover, followed by chills when the heroine realizes it might be a little more "real" than she thinks. Great job!

Lovely, erotic short story. I bought "Lucid" with cautious expectations due to its generally low ratings by other readers. I'm unsure what triggered their disappointment. "Lucid" is marketed as an erotic short story -- NOT erotic romance -- and that's exactly what Debra Glass provided in the reading experience. WARNING! SPOILERISH! "Lucid" describes a paranormal/time travel experience and brief (weekend)affair Jayne, a present-day librarian, and Byron, the scandalous 19th C Romantic poet, enjoy during Jayne's vacation in a house Byron once rented. Both characters experience change -- creative inspiration, sexual awakening -- and continue with their respective lives. This isn't a traditional romance, although Glass does imbue her prose with marked romantic elements given the story's short length. Glass is very brave to depict a historical figure as her protagonist's lover -- Byron's legend is so vast, I think it'd be hard for any author to portray him in a way where all his fans would feel satisfied. (I personally am not a Byron fan -- will never forgive him for dunning Keats.) I think Glass did his legend credit. Byron's an ideal fit for a dark, attractive, mystery lover/seducer in a brief assignation -- it's his long-term relationships that got ugly, none of them had HEA. Given the story's length, Jayne's characterization is well developed and interesting. Absinthe, a spooky storm, Gothic setting, and scintillating erotica set the tone for the brief fantasy/escape good short fiction provides. I would have liked seeing more evidence of how her experience changed Jayne rather than just reading her resolve to telephone a propsective date after her vacation. Beyond that, I'm completely satisfied with "Lucid" and I recommend it to readers who appreciate good short stories.

Although I have enjoyed her other books, this one missed the mark. I do not recommend this title.

It started out as an interesting premise. However towards the end it sort of fizzled.
