Mikaela Laughlin discovers a whole new world, and an entirely new species, when she tours the crime lab to meet Lieutenant Diarmid Redwolf while researching her next book. She’s lusted after “Delicious Diarmid” from afar for a long time, but meeting him sets her body on fire. It doesn’t take long for Mikaela to discover there’s more to Diarmid than meets the eye. He is far more delicious up close than she ever dreamed.

Diarmid has bad guys to catch, but one look at the voluptuous writer has him wanting to catch her instead. His shapeshifter blood recognizes his True Mate and he wants her naked body arching beneath his. Now. But with a cold-blooded serial killer on the loose, Diarmid has one shot at his future and he will not fail. Because this time, the killer wants Mikaela.

Great read. Excellent long story. Be warned it's a little unconventional because they get together very early on and the story isn't based around problems between them, but external forces- their family, the serial killer who's obsessed by him...I really enjoyed this story and would definitely re-read it. The characters are well developed and varied, the interaction is great, plot is exciting and sex is hot.

It was a thrill to read. I do so love a book writen with a good sense of humor and if I could rate this book a six I would! The sex scens were hot and great too. I specially liked that it was a smart clever woman with lots of caracter as well as a gorgeous hunk. I will give it my best recomendations! It is totaly worth a 5 point star and a extra 10 star for the length!!!

I liked it but honestly after a couple of days forgot it completely and that really never happens with me. I have read literally thousands of books and can fondly remmber the majority of them. So in the end it was a very enjoyable book but just something about it left me without anything to say wow that was a great book I'll definitly read it again.

I also decided to take a chance on an unknown author and am glad to say it was well worth it. The characters seemed realistic which can be difficult with a shapeshifter story. Also, this was a full-length novel unlike many of other EC books. There are some authors who write in a way that you feel a connection with the story. Lora Leigh and Christina Feehan are two examples. I felt almost the same way with "Protect & Defend". The only criticism I have is that it needed tighter editing in some places. (One example is the first time Mikaela goes into "heat"). I hope there are additional books based on some of the minor characters from this story.

I tend to shy away from unknown authors, but I decided to take a chance. I really loved this book. If I had a complaint about Elloras Cave it is that their books are too short, so it was refreshing to read a longer book on this site. I hope this author plans to make this a series, because now I want to read about all the characters.
