Grief has brought Lucia, a young widow, to Egypt, where she hopes that the ancient ruins will provide an escape from her overwhelming loneliness. She doesn’t expect to find Mark, who tries very hard to take her late husband’s place in her life. Her interest in him can’t erase the memory of the man she still loves more than anything, though—the man she called her Master—especially when she begins to catch haunting glimpses of Richard in the mysterious shadows of tombs and temples. And even as Mark tries to capture her heart, Lucia becomes convinced that Richard is passionately trying to communicate with her from what the ancient Egyptians called the land beyond the sunset.

Dee of Night Owl Romance - 4.5 / 5 Hearts - Reviewer Top Pick - Lucia, 28, who wanted to be an Egyptologist, goes to Egypt eighteen weeks after her husband was killed in a drunk driving accident. She meets Mark, 23, in the hotel restaurant and they whole heartedly enjoy a highly sexual master/submissive relationship. She has visions of Richard and thinks the energy level of the desert is so high her husband’s soul is presenting himself to her. Someone is trying to get to Lucia; she’s been drugged and knocked out. Mark, from California and a photographer believes its Richard’s brother trying to scare Lucia as he would be the beneficiary of a large sum of money if something happened to her. Mark introduces Lucia to his friends, some of whom embrace her, another warns her of Marks possible intentions, and another appear to be indifferent, but they share her interest in the regions’ history. She wants to explore Thebes and the region even with “Richard” in the area. The suspense is in discovering who is behind Richards’ appearances, the drugging, and physically attacking Lucia. The sexual relationships Lucia nurtures throughout range from oral, anal, to master/submissive, BDSM, to a threesome. The author writes all her scenes in vivid colorful descriptive prose including all her sex scenes. They’ll either get your heart pumping or leave you totally breathless. As in most suspense stories there’s a simple question that becomes evident, if asked, would be a large part of solving the predicament. Such a question comes to mind, and it forms with the perpetrator learning Lucia’s whereabouts. It’s certainly nice to read of a story that takes place in a far away land adding more drama and mystic to the storyline. Maria Isabel Pita’s characters are full of life and are experiencing exciting lifestyles. Crook & Flail has action happening at every turn. The first page of the story reminded me of reading Hemingway, but after getting past that first page, her writing not only had a flow, it had its own current. The style of writing was intelligent with lots of wonderful dialogue and intrigue. Maria Isabel Pita you have a special style of writing that’s certainly not commonplace – it’s a breath of freshness – pure oxygen to the brain. - http://www.nightowlromance.com
