While this story has BDSM its done with a finesse that is hard to find. Alice wasn't just being used by the King. He truly cared about her and even when he is "punishing" her he takes great care to not hurt or humiliate her. This is sadly lacking in many BDSM stories nowadays. BDSM is not about pain and humiliation but about control or giving up control to another for their shared pleasure. McCray brings this across superbly.
