Lucinda "Lucky" Starr only wants one present for Christmas — her boss. Unfortunately, the cool and collected Eric Payne refuses to act on their mutual feelings no matter how much she provokes him.

Then she discovers a mysterious perfume shop and buys a concoction guaranteed to release suppressed emotions. When she uses the essence on Eric, she finds herself spread out on his desk with her skirt up and her panties down.

But now that Lucky is finally on her boss's naughty list, she wonders if she can handle this season's spankings…

Reviewed by Stephanie G for Romancing the Book -- Evangeline Anderson is at it again! I requested this novella from Ellora's Cave because Anderson is one of my favorite erotica authors. She incorporates somewhat "porn-like" material (not the actual erotic content, but little details like the names -- Lucky Starr? Mr. Payne?) that almost makes her stories parodic, as well as hot BDSM. In the case of Season's Spankings, the BDSM is light -- just a few spanking scenes, as well as dominance and submission; very, very hot. And the sex scenes. God, the only way I can describe them is that they're scorching! The plot isn't very realistic (back to the porn), but it still makes for a quick, indulgent read. I mean, how likely is it for your boss to have sex with you in his office? Not very, but hey, it's erotica. It happens. There's a teeny bit of paranormalcy in this book. Lucky discovers a perfume store that carries customized products that claim to "open the door to your soul" -- another example of Anderson's comedic writing. Lucky's concoction transforms her into sexpot, the kind all the guys at the office are lusting over, and it just might be her ticket to Mr. Payne's attentions. But Mr. Payne's got other things on his minds -- things like how to find his way to Lucky's heart -- so in the end, we discover, that sometimes love (and lust) cannot be manipulated. Sometimes, love (and lust) happens on its own.

I hated the background andanalysis on donminance and submission. I felt like it enturupted the sexual tension the author tried to build. The dominant talked too much for my taste. As a dominant shouldn't he just act. you can read this book if you want, but you will be dissapointed. And for a book that had spanking in the title there was only one chapter with spanking which was disapponting.

Anderson presented an interesting background and analysis regarding dominance and submission in this light frothy story. She also introduced interesting magic to bring the truth to light and the cat is just adorable. The novella loses points for characterization. I didn't really like or even really know Eric until about 15 pages before the story ended. Lucky reads as immature and silly, almost adolescent in her behavior. I think this was meant to fit the plot; Lucky was a "naughty girl" who had to be disciplined, but it crossed the line from funny to silly and not really credible. Shouldn't an accountant be more intelligent and an experienced "love 'em and leave 'em" party girl find other methods to attract her man of choice than by messing around in the workplace? Once the hero and the heroine come together, though, I found it less grating and the ending was very satisfactory. This is a cute story and the spanking chapter lives up to the title.
