MysticValley, Book Two

Framed and running for his life, Traveller Devereaux decides to follow his missing brother Dancer, using the clues he left behind when he disappeared. They lead Traveller to the mysterious Mystic Valley where the people are blue, the flora and fauna are decidedly odd, and the mating customs are definitely different.

On his journey, he is injured in a serious accident that traps him in a cave with his best friend, Bishop. Bish finds the hidden tunnel leading to the valley and takes Traveller to safety. Trav's slow recovery allows him much-needed time to adjust to the valley and fall in love with Wrenna, the woman chosen as his bond mate. When he finds out that she is related to the man who murdered his parents and siblings, he must choose between the woman he loves and her murderous grandfather.

I read this book two years back...I paid for it. It wasn't free. I was caught up in the world the author built, and loved every tongue-in-cheek moment as much as I enjoyed the story line. I guess some people picked it up expecting hot, raunchy sex from the get-go. (This IS Ellora's Cave, after all.) But some of the best reads I have bought here at EC have made me wait for the heat, and I still loved them. I have read all the rest of the Mystic Valley books, as well, and I love hot, sexy, delicious romance in all it's various genres. I truly enjoy Anny Cook's style of writing and worldbuilding. This series of books is a winner.

If I could give 1/2 star I would. Bad, bad, bad, bad but a partial star for an interesting idea. Horrible execution as the author seemed more interested in just describing this other place. You know the other place that no one can find... oh yeah except for just those special few people in the world. Yeesssshhh. It was so boring. Only one hot sex scene and it wasn't between the two lead characters. They don't get into until the last 20 pages of this 129 page book. Really now. In fact Trav seems to be totally disinterested in his supposed mate. He's beyond rude for 1/2 the book and then on the very next page he tells her he wants to be her mate. It was like the artic to the sub tropics with the flick of a page. I read all of the book because I am like that but thank goodness I got it free during the special promo period. I wouldn't even borrow the book from a friend it's that bad because it would make me question their level of taste.

I read this book first. Fell in love with Mystic Valley, and had to go buy and read the first book immediately. Wrenna is a very understanding woman. Traveller is a strong and determined guy. Bish is a womanizing jerk, but a lovable one.

This second book in the series was wonderful. You don't get better than Anny Cook for world building and romance.
