Book 1 in the series Men of August

Marly's love for Cade has spanned her teenage years, and survived strong and intact into womanhood. Her fantasies and daydreams have sustained her, but she's no longer content with merely imagining the touch of his hands, the taste of his kiss. It's time to seduce the tough, sexy cowboy.

She's heard the rumors for years, the tales of his sexual preferences. She's prepared herself to accept his desires. Prepared her body for his touch. But she wasn't prepared for the choice to come...

Cade's dark desires, his sexual excesses are based in the past. In a time when pain, shame, and blood stains his very soul. He carries a secret shared only with his brothers. A secret that has scarred the bond, the ability to be a brother or to accept the love of the men he was raised with. He knows the only way to prove his loyalty, his love for those brothers and Marly will be the key.

She has a choice. She can surrender to Cade's needs, his soul deep desires, or she can walk away. A choice only Marly can make. A choice that will change her life forever.

Wonderful series. It is a sexual abuse story but they really do not get into that until later books. It is more menage and fighting their temptation for Marly and her seduction of the brothers.

Not for the faint hearted-the first book of the series touches on the fact the three guys were badly abused-leading to their need to share women. (this is revealed more over the next two books, stories of the two other August brothers which are also great.) Cade is a very strong domineering man and even though he warns Marly he won't be easy she still pursues him. She's sassy and has her own past to contend with- a past that finds her. It's good that some of these novels include the darker side of life at times, giving the characters a believable reason for their needs and desires. The sex scenes are intense and controlling, but still obvious is the love between the characters. I've just re-read this and loved it the second time as much as the first.

I liked it, though it certainly isn't light reading. The book contains some pretty heavy issues, with both Marly and the brothers suffering from abuse in the past, which, of course, affected them greatly. The darkness infused in the relationships is a bit too much for me, so I'll not read the rest of the series. *** I'd like to clarify my review as it seems another reviewer has indirectly remarked upon it. I stated that it wasn't a "light" read because its one of the most angst-ridden books I've ever read (and I've read a lot). If "fluffy" were one extreme, this book would be the example of the other extreme, the anti-fluffy. Cade is tortured, absolutely -tortured- that he has love-lust feelings for Marly for two reasons: (1) he practically raised her since she was 12 and, though not a blood-relative, she may be considered a "niece" and (2) he has dark, dark needs, including the need to share his women with his brothers, and is afraid that'll drive her away. And Marly, at age 20 (a bit young in my book), is supposed to be wonderful, sweet, etc, but comes across to me as somewhat immature and likes to taunt Cade. So, before, during and after every sexual encounter leading up until sex (page 107), Cade tortures himself that it is wrong, wrong, wrong and not-kindly rejects Marly. Its just a constant, angst-ridden tug-of-war that at some point I got a bit fed up with it and said "well, just accept it, do her already and get over it." Add to that, Marly's molester-stepfather is after her. Finally, I'm somewhat uncomfortable that the brothers need to share their women stem from their abuse; I think any behavior that has its roots in abuse should be very, very, very carefully analyzed. That all being said, I did like it, and it was very well-written, which is why I gave it as many stars as I did.

If you're looking for a fluffy romance, look elsewhere. Yeah, there's a hard edge to this story and it's the least "romantic" of the series. But it's hot as hell and if you read the rest of the books, you'll find out how much Cade really does love Marly.

Well written but I did not understand the ending or what I thought was the ending. The sex scenes were great though!
