Book 3 in the Ilyrian Destiny series.

After being attacked and left for dead on the side of a mountain, Myrra Lansyr isn't worried about waking up naked, being tied to a bed or stranded with a stranger seeking vengeance for his murdered brother. Far more frightening and unacceptable are the deep, unrestrained desires Brett Canon looses within her every time they touch.

Again and again he pushes her to her limits and past them — sexually and emotionally — and still demands more. Years before, she chose duty to country over personal feelings, but for the first time in her life, the obligation of her position as Captain of an Ilyrian royal guard is challenged by a longing for more. And Brett will do whatever it takes to keep her safe in his arms and present in his life.

As with the first two books in the series, the love scenes were searing and many. They were not mostly from Brett's perspective (I have no idea what book reviewer C was reading), they usually started with one POV and moved to the other. As another review noted, Myrra's transformation was beautiful. I have yet to figure out how Ms. Jameson can infuse a story with so much romance and depth when she's got her hands full with the loving. This story didn't have (or require) as much world-building as the first one. Although the books could stand alone, what sane reader wouldn't want to read them all?!

Great story. The heroine evolved from one who shielded her heart to being able to open her heart.

Hard to relate to the emotionally-detached and fairly humorless heroine. The narrative was mainly from the alpha male's perspective, including the sex scenes. Perhaps the other books in this series are better.
