Book One in the Bare Love series.

It was just another day in the small town of Legacy for sexy gym owner Moira Madigan and her best friend Cass. Until they investigated a noise and stumbled upon the body of the latest victim of the rapist and killer who was preying on the women in their town. Now being stalked by this madman, Moira is put under the protective custody of Detective Gil Daniels. He's tall, dark, handsome and just about the sexiest thing she's ever seen. The good news is he's crazy about her too. The bad news is so is the killer and he'll use anyone to get to her.

Can she trust the detective to keep her body safe or only to bring her the ultimate pleasure a woman can have? Sex with Gil Daniels is better than anything she's ever dreamed of and she just might be falling in love. All she has to do is survive meeting his family and avoid the obsessed killer and she might find that happily ever after.

This is a great story and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I appreciated that Moira took responsibility for saving herself and was strong enough to stand up against Gil. I can't wait for Griff's story.

This felt like a draft copy, with a bit of polishing it could have been a good book but I just felt a bit awkward reading it. It was very cheesy in places, there were somethings I couldn't even read in my head let alone contemplate saying them out loud! But I downloaded it for free so can't really complain too much as I haven't lost anything overall!

I liked the overall concept of the storyline but the way Gil and Ben handled the information regarding the psycho killer was not proper police procedure and makes for a ridiculous scene. For example, there is a killer who is raping and smashing the faces of women in and the cop, Gil, who is having an affair with the heroine in this story and also, a survivor from the killer and the boss of a healthclub for abused woman brings her news regarding her receptionist and friend that was just killed instead of handling it immediately and making everyone in the club aware of what happened, he is standing around with the security guys and the heroine making sexual jokes and loving on his woman. To me that is not how a cop would act. Also when the killer catches her in her own gym after closing and she is naked in the sauna with a couple of employees still in the club, he shows up just in time to chase the killer out the back door but gives up and comes back in and starts arguing with his girlfriend for being naked in the sauna and jealous because his brother just saw her naked as she was running for her life from the killer. Also, Gil's sister kills the killer who is trying to beat the heroine to death in her own club and her other brother watches helplessly through the window but when the cops show up and everything is handled, he just takes off without staying to see if his sister is okay or his brother's fiance is okay and just runs and no one hears from him for a very long time. Not a very thoughout plot, Lacey. Things like this ruins the story and just makes it look stupid. This story is sort of off the cuff if you know what I mean.

I’m a bit surprised that this book got as many as good reviews as it did. I bought this and the second based on these reviews, and I must say that I’m disappointed. This book (and the second, Bare Confessions; I bought them at the same time) are shining examples of what I find annoying with romance books- The first problem is the writing. It reminds me of a high schooler’s attempt at creative writing. One, the sentences can be rather simplistic and the transitions between them are lacking. The effect is a read that is unsophisticated and a continuous stop-and-go. For example, on page 26 is the following: “The man was a living legend. Every Marine had heard the tales of his exploits. It was said that more than a few men owed their lives to him. Gil could see why so many people feared him. He was really something to see in his anger.” This is one of the more obvious examples, but the whole book reeks of this style and pace, which, of course, is maddening. Two, the conversations tend to be ones that I would never hear anyone say in my life. Here’s a great example from the second book (page 7): “I’m not some little doll who needs to be sheltered and protected. I wish you and my brothers would get over that idea.” Katie turned and stomped over to the window. “I shot and killed a man, Ben. Just how innocent do you think that leaves me?” Its like bad soap opera. The second problem is the characters and plot. One, as a romance novel reader, I am used to characters falling in love pretty soon after they meet, but I sure do prefer it when its done well. It certainly wasn’t done well here. They meet, they have sex, and, boom, they’re in love. I wasn’t convinced. Two, the sex scenes are not memorable. Just pretty basic and straightforward. And the whole seeing Moira naked and having loud sex in the bedroom while his family (including his mom!) were in the living room. really? I’m not a prude and I like hot sex, but that just crosses a boundary for me. and Ben and Katie did it in the second book (though in a house and she didn’t realize they were there). There were so many other little things that I thought of while reading – the father seems to drop out at some point; Moira’s past was such that she should have -serious- issues with men but that didn’t seem to be the case; I would skim over the serial killer narrative (not really want I want to read); the author seemed the be setting up Ben and Cass at the beginning; etc. As you can see, I am really, really sorry that I bought and spent my time on these books.
