Vic Flash, street thief and gambler, thought working as a spy for a King's Own would be a simple way to earn some money while hiding from the leader of a rival street gang. Even if she did have to worry about being seduced by the sexy general.

General Jacob Marin thought hiring the little thief to work as a spy would not only be a good way to get answers to the mysteries converging on his city but a good excuse to keep Vic close. Close enough to seduce.

Neither anticipated the danger that would descend with each new discovery. Blood magicians, goblins, smugglers and a mysterious evil lurking in the background launch Vic and Jacob on a deadly quest to save a child of prophesy, a journey that will test the bonds of their newfound trust and love. Failure could mean disaster for the future of the world.

Megan from Nightowl Reviews: I was... woah, surprised by this novel, I must admit. The writing was tight and engrossing. The characters were ALL attractive in the sense of really being someone the reader comes to care about. The violence AND the sexuality were not smoothed over but likewise were handled very tastefully. And the story, particularly the main story within the larger plot revolving around Vic and Jacob, was honestly what a modern/historical, romance/fantasy with plenty of humor/horror undertones should be. Until reading this book, I wasn't even sure that such a mix could exist. Now? I am so glad to have been proven wrong. The interaction of the characters, their independence and care for each other was simply a gift to us jaded readers. But best of all, it was implied that this is not the end of the tale especially for our surprising, infant heroine! Suffice to say, I would highly recommend this book for just about anyone with the warning that, like me, you'll be both happy and impatient to see all of your favorite characters in a few years with a (hopeful?) follow-up novel. Great job, Mrs. Kelly! Just keep in mind, I may not forgive you if said sequel is not forthcoming....
