Brothers in Arms, Book Three.

Valentine Westridge and Kurt Schillig are lovers, and have been since the Peninsular War when lonely young officer Valentine let himself be seduced by the equally lonely Kurt. Now they're back from the war and intent on beginning the future they dreamed of together, one that includes a quiet country estate, horses, dogs, children, and each other. Their plan, however, also requires a wife. At the suggestion of a mutual friend, Valentine and Kurt believe the financial security they can offer to impoverished widow Leah Marleston will help her accept the unusual sexual relationship they are suggesting.

Leah is at her wit's end, creditors having taken everything she owns to pay off her late husband's gambling debts. She must find a way to support herself and her two children, or be forced to marry her abusive and obsessive brother-in-law. In Valentine's and Kurt's arms, Leah discovers a passion she never knew existed. Brought together by necessity, bonded by desire, these three lonely people find themselves fighting against all odds for a love that was never part of their plans.

This follows the series and is really 4th as you can look at the book publication date and see At Love's Command was released a year before this. I think it was written as a back book. Anyway, it is short and not as well drawn out. Things seemed clipped. These characters don't play a part in the other books up to this one. You see only the Duke and Brett from the other books. You really don't need to read it to continue the story but it is a good short story just not up to the other stories in the series.

This was a okay read, I'm not going to say I didn't enjoy it - I just didn't enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed other books in the series. The relationship between Val and Kurt seemed to be more the focus than the relationship between they and Leah. I was left a little disappointed in the characters and story development.

I enjoyed this book as I have the others in the series. I am sad that the story was so short. This was a story worth reading more of.

The story is average and so is the sex scenes. Kane's books are usually red hot, but this one is just your average romance book with some erotic thrown in. Story is too short to give the characters their due.

The whole series is a must have - it has deep emotion, great sex, fantastic writing, and a solid storyline. This one was a bit shorter than the others, but still WELL DONE, and well worth every penny!

I laughed, cried, and needed a cold shower after reading this book. Keep them coming. Great series.
